There are a number of organizational factors that dictate who should staff and manage the L4G project. First and foremost, ensure that staff can dedicate time and capacity to the project amidst other competing priorities. Beyond that, we have seen L4G work best when it is staffed with consideration to the following:
- Number of Staff Involved: At least two key staff is ideal — both in terms of roles (see below) and in order to mitigate loss of knowledge in the case of staff turnover and to ensure broader buy-in across the organization.
- Roles of Key Staff: The best combination involves an employee or two who has direct day-to-day interactions with frontline staff and/or clients (the Listen4Good Project Manager) in addition to a more senior-level manager who has the ability to advocate for internal changes to programs, operations, and/or the allocation of staff time and budget (the Listen4Good Project Champion). If only one person can be directly involved, ensure they have access to and support of leadership and program departments.
- Recommended Skills: Keep in mind that L4G provides coaching, tools, and resources to help staff with these!
For more information on what skills are needed at each step of the process, see our recommendations for staffing.
